Herringbone flooring

Herringbone flooring – planks of parquet, solid or engineered floor boards with the same length, which are stacked at 90° angle to each other. Fixed length of the plank allows to install the pattern in different directions, thus successfully complement the interior. Installation pattern could be in a straight line, diagonal, as straight and reverted squares and in other typical methods of installation of ornamental flooring.

Historically, it is believed that herringbone style was one of the first installation patterns of parquet, which originated in the medieval Europe. Presumably this method emerged as an imitation of the ornamental installation of the brick and tile patterns, which were used in the churches and other prominent structures, long before the nascence of the parquet floors. It should be noted, that distinctiveness and simplicity of this pattern make it also popular nowadays.

Stenyk company manufactures oak herringbone flooring with width 70-240mm and with “tongue-groove” profile, which allows you to combine different planks into solid flooring.

Lately, there has been a fairly popular trend towards installation of the so-called “double herringbone”. With such installation style, two “left” and two “right” planks are stacked together. Such style, allows you to combine different widths of the planks and different colors, which makes the floor quite unique and modern.

Classification of the grades for width 160 – 220mm:

• Select – the highest grade of wood, produced by mixed wood sawing. Light knots  up to 5mm and cells up to 3mm are allowed. The front side has a uniform design without flat heart-shaped strips. The color is even, typical of that type of timber without big color changes, any blotches and any custom colors.

• Natur – products of this grade of wood were manufcatures by means of  mixed wood sawing. Front side has a uniform design. Big color contrast, sapwood, rot, wormholes, mechanical damage are not allowed. Knots are allowed: sound knots – up to 15mm in diameter, black knots – up to 5mm. Slight changes in the color within a timber tone are allowed.

• Rustic A – products of this grade of wood were manufcatures by means of  mixed wood sawing. Front side has a uniform design. Big color contrast, sapwood, rot, wormholes, mechanical damage are not allowed. Knots are allowed: sound knots – up to 30mm in diameter, black knots – up to 15mm. Average color variation is allowed

• Rustic B – mixed wood sawing was used during the production. Allowed: big color changes on the front side; healthy knots: light – up to 60mm and dark with a diameter up to 25 mm, partly rotten not pass – through knots, kernel is possible, small cracks that do not extend to the edge. Color is typical of that type of the wood. Big color changes and color variations are allowed. Not allowed through holes, wormholes, over humidity, sapwood, through cracks.
